Pond Barley Straw Bales Algae Treatment Treats 13500L Pack of 3
Clean up problem ponds the natural way
Float the net of barley straw in your pond - ideally it should be tethered just below the surface, near a water outlet.
Use one net per 4500L (1000 gallons approx.). For smaller ponds of less than 2250L (500 gallons approx.) cut a net in half, re-tie the ends and use one half at a time.
When the straw has almost fully decayed, put a fresh net into the pond and then two weeks later remove the old one.
Proven effective
This method has been used successfully for hundreds of years - in the middle ages, monks used barley straw to clear up their carp ponds.
Nowadays, studies have shown the scientific reasons why barley straw should be so effective. As it decays barley straw releases small amounts of hydrogen peroxide which kills the algae. It is a popular alternative to chemical pond treatments, since it is environmentally friendly, natural and it works just as well.
It is suitable for use all year round, and will not harm other plants or fish in your pond.
Green pond tips
Make sure that no lime is being washed into your pond from concrete pavers or pointing. Even the smallest amount of lime can encourage green water algae.
Your pond should be at least 75% full of plants, and surface should be shaded by lots of lily leaves. Pond plants use up the sun and food that algae and blanketweed need to survive.
Algae is much less likely to grown in a mature pond.
Each barley straw bale treats 4500L approx. of pond water
Tackles algae, green water and blanketweed
3 pack of bales treats a total of 13500L
Each bale is packaged in its own net
Natural alternative to pond treatment chemicals
